I am such a big fan of the Mission: Impossible action series, that whenever they are about to release a new one, I get stoked. It is the epitome of high-tech action packed entertainment.
I’ll start from the beginning:
Mission: Impossible I
- The Director Brian de Palma (Scarface, The Untouchables) creates a classic suspense-filled espionage thriller balanced with big action set pieces.
- Tom Cruise doing his trademark, iconic Tom Cruise serious action role.
- Great supporting cast for the IMF Team – Jean Reno ( The Professional), Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Emilio Estevez
- Inventive gadgetry
Mission: Impossible II
- The Director John Woo (The Killer, Hard Boiled, Bullet in the Head, Face/Off) brings his Hong Kong patented action to Hollywood: balletic slow-mo double fisted gunplay, hyper-kinetic motorcycle and vehicle sequences, and flying doves…
- Vast imaginative set pieces – The Grand Canyon, Spain, Australia
- Sir Anthony Hopkins
Mission: Impossible III
- The Director J.J. Abrams (Alias, Fringe, Lost, Star Trek, Super 8) knows how to make smart action films with stellar acting.
- Sadistic villain: Philip Seymour Hoffman
- Globe-trotting action pieces: The Vatican, Shanghai
- Awesome additions to the IMF Team: Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Tudors), Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Paul), Keri Russell (Felicity), Maggie Q (Le Femme Nikita)
Hot Ladies of Mission: Impossible
Which brings us to Mission: Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol
I’ve been hearing rumors that this might be Tom Cruise’s last role as Ethan Hunt, and someone else taking over as top IMF agent. Everything good comes to an end, so hopefully this 4th installment goes out with a spark and a bang!
Directed by Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille). Unconventional choice with the director coming from beloved Pixar films, but judging from the trailer below, it is looking pretty kick-ass.
SYNOPSIS : The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization’s name.
